BIO

Jim Hoell is a native of Long Island, New York and became interested in the arts at an early age. Encouraged by his grandmother, also an artist, he entered his first photography contest at age 14 and won second place and honorable mention. He continued to pursue art throughout his education, graduating from the State University of New York at New Paltz with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts. Skilled in painting, poetry, writing and music, and an avid outdoors man, he has learned to combine his artistic talent with his love and knowledge of nature. His medium may change but, his subject remains. He is constantly studying and appreciating the natural world around him. There is a close relationship between his work and the feelings he hopes they derive; they are both an expression of nature.

ARTIST STATEMENT

It is in nature that I find I am most content. Through my work I hope to touch lives and raise awareness of the treasures of our natural world. There are works of art all around us; everywhere in nature, if you take the time to look. If one feels lost, they can always turn to nature for answers and if I can capture that in a photograph or painting or poem then maybe I can help someone feel a sense of belonging. Those who may be searching for meaning and connection, may find hope or inspiration. This concept fuels my work, it keeps me going and nourishes my soul. I’m still learning and making connections but there is a sense of truth in nature that is beautiful. My desire to create and that energy ... I could get lost in my work for days. I believe we all are one, we all are connected and compassion is the answer to reaching many.
